Arteta promotes 19yo Nigeria-eligible midfielder to Arsenal first team training pre-Brighton
Published: April 07, 2022
Arsenal have stepped up their preparations after their loss to Crystal Palace in their first game after the international break.
The Arsenal first team players were put through their paces by manager Mikel Arteta and his backroom staff as they look to return to winning ways against Brighton & Hove on Saturday afternoon.
Through their social media channels, the Gunners have shared a video of a part of the training session held at London Colney on Thursday.
Arteta observed England youth international of Nigerian descent Miguel Azeez at close quarters during today's workout.
The 19-year-old central midfielder has seen his chances of playing his first game for Arsenal's senior team this term receive a major boost with Ghana international Thomas Partey set for a spell on the sidelines after a muscle damage to his right thigh during the game against Crystal Palace.
Azeez's first and only call-up for a Premier League game was on
April 11, 2021 when he was an unused substitute against Sheffield
United.
His loan spell at Portsmouth did not go according to plan and he
was recalled from the League One club in the January transfer window.
