Mainz was Balogun's last club in Germany before he moved to the United Kingdom to link up with Brighton & Hove, from where he joined Rangers on a free transfer in 2020.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side face off with Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League final at Seville's Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium on Wednesday, May 18.
Frankfurt were held to a 2-2 draw by Mainz in their final league game of the season, while Rangers completed their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 3-1 win over Hearts, with Balogun in action for an hour.
The Nigeria international centre-back was delighted to see a fan of a German club publicly showing his support for the Light Blues.
Balogun retweeted a post from Mainz and added : "Things you love to see - a Mainz supporter raising a Rangers scarf in their match against Frankfurt earlier today! Do we have a new friendship between supporters pending? "
