Two reasons Arsenal manager needs to make swift decision on two Nigeria-eligible players
Published: June 21, 2022The transfer window is in full flow and the wheels are starting to turn as players return from international duties to sort out their futures with their clubs.
Nigeria has a lot of talented young footballers abroad and many of them are on the brink of breaking into their club's first team which makes this summer a very delicate and important one
At Arsenal, the three-time AFCON champions have Miguel Azeez and Folarin Balogun very close to the first team with both going on loan in January to gain more experience.
However, it is not yet clear if both will be heading out on loan again for the upcoming season or if they will remain at the Emirates Stadium hence the need for Mikel Arteta to arrive at a decision on both players quickly before the preseason training rolls in.
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at two reasons why the Arsenal manager has to reach a decision on Miguel Azeez and Folarin Balogun quickly.
Youth
The players need to have clarity on what the future holds for them. If they are to spend the season on loan elsewhere, they need to be prepared as much as possible.
They need to be integrated into their new teams during preseason which will aid their settlement.
Being young players, any inadequacy in their preparations could affect them for the rest of the season as they are not experienced to adjust quickly to new environments like seasoned professionals.
Confidence
Both players play in extremely confidence-dependent positions and need to be prepared both physically and mentally.
A disrupted preseason preparation could dampen their confidence which could affect their season massively.
Azeez is a control freak who is already mastering the art of dictating the midfield tempo despite his tender years.
When confident, he can do things that overshadow his age but out of confidence, he could just be another passenger.
Balogun on the other hand is a modern-day striker.
Despite his frame, he is technically clean and secure. When confident, Balogun is incredibly difficult to play against but when short on confidence, he can be quite clumsy.
Arteta must make a swift decision on both players to give them the best possible platform to have a good season.
