Significant update emerges on future of two Nigerian strikers at Middlesbrough

Nigerian strikers Chuba Akpom and Uche Ikpeazu have been linked with a departure from Middlesbrough this summer.

According to The Northern Echo's Chief Sports Writer Scott Wilson, Boro boss Chris Wilder is in the market for a marquee centre-forward, with Akpom and Ikpeazu expected to depart the Riverside Stadium in the next few weeks.

England U21 international of Nigerian descent Folarin Balogun spent the second half of last season at Boro but has returned to Arsenal following the end of his loan spell.

Akpom is under contract with Middlesbrough until the end of the forthcoming season and Ikpeazu is tied to the club until June 30, 2024.

The Hale End Academy product spent last season on loan at PAOK - his second spell at the Greek Super League club.

As for 2014 Nigeria U23 invitee Ikpeazu, he saw his playing time reduced after the appointment of Wilder as Boro manager and was loaned out to Cardiff City in the January transfer window to complete the season.

Two other attack-minded Nigeria-eligible players in ex-Flying Eagles star Sammy Ameobi and Toyosi Olusanya ended their association with Middlesbrough earlier this month.
