Nigeria-eligible duo not involved as Ten Hag suffers defeat first game in charge v Brighton
Published: August 07, 2022
Brighton & Hove earned a historic 2-1 win over Manchester United in what was Erik ten Hag's first game in charge of the Red Devils.
As exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com two days ago, Nigerian central defender Odel Offiah was set to miss out on the matchday squad as he did not train with the first team before their trip to Old Trafford.
England U19 international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire was also left out of the matchday squad amid speculation linking him with a temporary departure from Manchester United this summer.
The young attacking midfielder was not on U21 duties on Saturday as the Red Devils began their season with a 3-1 loss to Arsenal in a Premier League 2 clash at Meadow Park.
It was not the script that Ten Hag dreamt of when he went to bed last night as his side were two goals down inside thirty-three minutes as Pascal Gross netted two close range goals.
The German was the standout performer, taking his tally to six goals against Manchester United.
Alexis Mac Allister’s own goal midway through the second half gave United hope but the Seagulls were able to hold on to victory and claim all three points.
Today's victory against Manchester United was Brighton's first ever win in their history at Old Trafford.
