Ex-Flying Eagles striker labels Chelsea's new boss Potter 'the best coach in the world'
Published: September 09, 2022
Former Flying Eagles striker Alhaji Gero has congratulated his former mentor Graham Potter on his appointment as the new coach of Premier League side Chelsea.
The former Southampton defender was officially announced as Chelsea's new coach on Thursday, replacing Champions League-winning manager Thomas Tuchel who was sacked in the aftermath of a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
Potter did great things at Brighton & Hove, leading them to their highest-ever league finish in 2021-2022.
The 47-year-old first made his name at Swedish club Ostersunds, taking the club from the fourth tier to the Allsvenskan and reaching the knockout rounds of the Europa League four years ago.
Gero worked with Potter at Ostersunds, scoring 12 goals and assisting six others across two years - his highest goal involvement under a single coach.
The attacker was effusive in his praise of Potter, labeling the English football tactician the best coach in the world.
Writing on Instagram on Friday, Gero said : "Congratulations to the best coach in the world, wishing you all the best in Chelsea".
Gero and Potter departed Ostersunds for pastures new in the summer of 2018.
