England U19 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka is in contention to be included in Chelsea's matchday squad for their crucial Champions League clash against Austrian champions Salzburg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The fixture will go ahead as planned despite the the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and kickoff remains 2000 hours Nigerian time.
On the eve of the Champions League clash, the Chelsea players trained at Cobham Training Centre under the guidance of newly appointed English coach Graham Potter, with Chukwuemeka part of the group.
Potter monitored the Anglo-Nigerian at close quaters with a view to making a decision on whether or not to include him in the matchday 23.
The former Brighton & Hove manager also ran the rule over the teenage central midfielder in Monday's training session.
Chukwuemeka was not given any minutes as Chelsea began their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb last Tuesday, a defeat that spelled the end of Thomas Tuchel who was dismissed the following morning.
The 18-year-old has been included in three matchday squads but has yet to make his debut for the first team since his arrival from Aston Villa in August.
