Super Eagle admits he's inspired by Chelsea and Arsenal legends, sad missing out on World Cup
Published: October 15, 2022
Super Eagles star Terem Moffi has admitted that he is inspired by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and Arsenal icon Thierry Henry.
Arguably the greatest African player to grace the Premier League, Drogba tallied 164 goals in 381 matches for Chelsea in two different spells, winning four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Champions League.
Henry played for Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona and New York Red Bulls but it was at Arsenal he made a proper name for himself, scoring 228 goals across eight and a half seasons in two different stints, helping the north London club win two Premier League titles and the FA Cup on two occasions.
Overall, the 1998 World Cup winner with France scored 365 career goals, won twenty one titles and two Golden Boots.
Growing up, the left-footed Moffi idolized another Premier League legend Robin Van Persie and was also inspired by Drogba and Henry.
"Van Persie was really good. He had a fantastic left foot and was very good at finishing. But Didier Drogba inspired me a lot as an African player," Moffi said to French newspaper Le Télégramme.
"Thierry Henry was very strong too. Today it's Erling Haaland: he really has something different and special."
Moffi revealed that he felt sad Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a 1-1 draw with Ghana at the National Stadium in Abuja, a result that saw them eliminated via the away goal rule.
"To miss a World Cup by so little is inevitably sad. Any player dreams of participating. But I don't think it really affected my performance with the club. I quickly moved on," Moffi added.
Moffi has emerged as an injury worry ahead of the Super Eagles international friendlies against Costa Rica and Portugal next month after suffering a suspected ankle injury during a league game against Reims on Saturday evening.
