Nwaneri battles 2017 Super Eagles invitee, 6 others for Arsenal Goal of the Month
Published: November 03, 2025
Arsenal’s rising star Ethan Nwaneri has been shortlisted for the club’s October Goal of the Month award following his sublime strike against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup.
The 18-year-old broke the deadlock for the Gunners with a brilliant low strike into the bottom corner, before Bukayo Saka came off the bench to add a second in the latter stages of the game.
Nwaneri is up against seven other nominees, including summer signing Eberechi Eze, who received a Super Eagles invitation in 2017 from the then president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick.
Eze earned his nomination for a spectacular scissor kick that handed Arsenal a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Also in contention is Gabriel Martinelli, recognized for his precise first-time finish against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Others include Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo, who earned two nominations, Brando Bailey-Joseph, Marcel Washington, and Harrison Dudziak.
Arsenal enjoyed a flawless month in October, winning all six matches across competitions, scoring 12 goals, and keeping six clean sheets.
Despite penning a new deal in the summer, Nwaneri endured a slow start to the season, struggling to secure regular minutes even amid captain Martin Ødegaard’s injury setbacks.
In contrast, Eze made an impressive start to his Gunners career, featuring regularly and showcasing his versatility across multiple positions.
Both players will be eager to claim the award as they look to ignite, or further strengthen, their campaigns with Arsenal.
