WSL : Plumptre proud of Leicester City teammates despite loss to Man Utd
Published: October 24, 2022
Super Falcons central defender Ashleigh Plumptre says she is proud of her Leicester City teammates despite suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in a Women's Super League match at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Nikita Parris netted the only goal of the game when she headed home Katie Zelem's free-kick in the 33rd minute.
With ten minutes to go, Ella Toone had a chance to double the advantage but Plumptre made a recovery block and deflected her effort behind.
The Super Falcons star feels that Leicester City had a disappointing result despite their positive performance against one of the in-form teams in the Women's Super League.
Apart from the chance converted by Parris, Plumptre was able to keep the Manchester United strikers quiet, an attack with international stars such as Spain's Lucía García, England's Ella Toone and Rachel Williams.
Reflecting on the loss to Manchester United, Plumptre told LCFC TV : "I felt we prepared for the game well. We were not going to underestimate them at all and we did have like I guess in the sense an underdog mentality and I'm really proud of the team today.
"Everybody put in a graft, till the final whistle we thought that we could get something. Disappointed but proud of the team."
Plumptre and her Leicester City teammates are back in action on Wednesday, October 26 when they take on Liverpool in the FA Women's League Cup.
