Fenerbahce wing-back reacts to maiden Super Eagles call-up
Published: November 12, 2022
Fenerbahce wing-back Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken of his happiness at receiving his first invitation to the Nigeria national team.
The Blackpool academy product has been named in a 23-man squad by manager Jose Pesiero's for next Thursday's glamour friendly against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Lisbon.
Born in Okija, Anambra State, Osayi-Samuel qualifies to represent Nigeria by virtue of being born in the country to Nigerian parents.
Although he is also eligible to represent England having lived in the country for more than a decade before transferring to Fenerbahce, the versatile winger always made it clear that he wanted to play for the Super Eagles over the Three Lions.
With the likes of Ola Aina, Jamilu Collins and Zaidu Sanusi not available for selection for the upcoming meeting with Portugal owing to injuries, manager Jose Peseiro handed Osayi-Samuel his first invite to the Super Eagles.
Osayi-Samuel took to Twitter to react to his maiden Super Eagles call-up, stating : "Honored to be called up for Nigeria".
The 24-year-old has made twenty appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce this season, including five games in the Europa League.
