Moriero backs Osimhen to deliver against Inter but San Siro not his preferred hunting ground
Published: January 04, 2023Francesco Moriero is backing Victor Osimhen to deliver the goods when Napoli take to the pitch to face Inter Milan in a big Serie A showdown at the San Siro on Wednesday.
Heading into the matchday sixteen contest, the Nigeria international leads the way in the goalscoring charts with nine goals from eleven appearances, one more than Bologna's Marko Arnautovic and two ahead of Inter Milan's World Cup winner with Argentina Lautaro Martínez and Atalanta's Ademola Lookman.
Moriero, who has a foot in both camps having represented Inter Milan and Napoli during his playing days, underlined that Osimhen is a key player for the Blues.
"Brozovic's absence will weigh heavily on Inzaghi, but tomorrow, regardless of formation, Inter will have to prove they are a team," Moriero said to Sport Italia.
"I expect a great match from the whole team, on the other hand Victor Osimhen will play a fundamental role: he is a key player for Napoli."
The San Siro is not Osimhen's preferred hunting ground, with the striker failing to score in his two previous visits to the iconic stadium.
In March 2021, the Napoli number 9 fired blanks in 31 minutes of action against AC Milan and eight months later, he suffered a serious injury in a 3-2 loss to the Nerazzurri - an injury that kept him out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon a year ago.
Osimhen has not found the net in five games combined playing against Inter Milan and AC Milan.
