Graham Potter provides update on future of Chelsea's newest recruit at Stamford Bridge
Published: January 04, 2023
Speaking to the national press in England before his side's Premier League meeting with Manchester City, Chelsea boss Graham Potter provided an update on the future of the club's newest recruit David Datro Fofana at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea reached an agreement with Molde for the permanent transfer of the promising striker late last month and he officially joined the Blues when the transfer window opened for business on January 1.
Fofana was in the stands on New Year's Day as Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest.
"He’s here at the moment but we still need to wait for the clearances and all those formalities," Potter was quoted as saying by Chelsea's official website.
"He’s been on a bit of a break so we’ll give him some time to train and assess him, then find out the best solution in terms of how to take the next step of his career."
The 20-year-old was signed a part of Chelsea's Vision 2030 project and it is being speculated in the media that he would be farmed out on loan before the close of the winter transfer market.
Graham Potter has made it clear that Fofana will be assessed before a decision is taken on whether to keep him at Stamford Bridge or loan him out to continue his development.
"It’s too early to say. He’s an exciting player so we’re open-minded about it," Potter concluded.
