Victor Osimhen: We will fight back as underdogs
Published: October 14, 2025
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has reflected on Nigeria's recent performances in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers, describing the team as 'underdogs' ahead of their crucial clash against Benin Republic.
The Galatasaray striker provided the assist for Akor Adams' winner in Nigeria's 2–1 victory over Lesotho — a result that helped the Super Eagles stay competitive in their qualifying campaign. According to SportPremi, Osimhen's remarks came shortly after the match as he addressed the team's current struggles and determination to improve.
"On Tuesday against Benin we will be underdogs and Benin are the favorite to win. Because we have been playing a bad game for our standards, it just doesn't come together," Osimhen said.
The 26-year-old admitted that recent performances have not lived up to expectations but emphasized that the squad remains focused on giving their all.
"We cannot promise our fans much. But we will fight. This group keeps on giving; it doesn't stop. We hope it will be our turn to be on top on Tuesday if we play our part as players," he added.

Osimhen's Assessment
Osimhen expressed disappointment with the team’s recent form, revealing his frustration over how the Super Eagles of Nigeria have represented the country in recent outings.
"I don't want to talk much about other things, but I am not happy with how we represent our country," he said.
As reported by SportPremi media team, the Super Eagles have faced criticism for inconsistent results in the qualifiers, but there remains optimism that a turnaround is near.
Focus on Benin Republic
Nigeria will now host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where victory is crucial for their qualification hopes. Osimhen's comments, originally shared via SportPremi full report, underline the sense of urgency and commitment within the Super Eagles of Nigeria camp as they prepare for today’s encounter against Benin.
