Chelsea 1 Crystal Palace 0 : Chukwuemeka makes full debut, ex-Super Eagles invitee stars
Published: January 15, 2023
Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to arrest their current poor run of form in a London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Kai Havertz grabbed the only but vital goal for the Blues albeit they remained in 10th place in the table.
England U20 international of Nigerian descent, Carney Chukwuemeka, made his first Chelsea start in the game, while former Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise impressed in ninety minutes of action against his former employers.
Another Nigeria target in Eberechi Eze started and was in action for 69 minutes for Palace and academy product David Ozoh returned to the squad but was a non-playing substitute.
Chukwuemeka, who played out of position, struggled a bit and made way for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 63rd minute.
Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when Havertz got to the end of a Hakim Ziyech pinpoint cross with a thumping header.
Graham Potter's men are tenth in the table, level on 28 points with their next Premier League opponents Liverpool.
