FA Youth Cup : Nwaneri finds the net as Arsenal win 5-goal thriller v Cambridge United
Published: February 23, 2023
Arsenal advanced to the semifinals of the FA Youth Cup after beating Cambridge United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
There were starts for two players of Nigerian descent in the shape of schoolboy attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri and Cambridge United's Brandon Njoku.
Nwaneri, making his third appearance in the FA Youth Cup, blasted home from the edge of the area to break the deadlock after nine minutes, but the visitors restored parity in the 26th minute as an Arsenal player put the ball into his own net.
There was nothing to separate the two sides at halftime as they went into the break level at 1-1.
Two minutes into the second half, Njoku blazed over the bar after a brilliant delivery from McConnell.
Yearn, on 68 minutes, slotted home from a tight angle to give Cambridge United the lead, but Arsenal responded well and equalized through Cozier-Duberry four minutes later.
Sousa scored Arsenal's third goal at just the right time, volleying in the winner in the second minute of stoppage time.
