Madueke unused substitute, Chukwuemeka not in squad as Chelsea are beaten by Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are four points clear of fifth-place Newcastle United in the battle for the Champions League spots following their 2-0 win over Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having started the last two games played by the Blues, January signing from PSV Eindhoven Noni Madueke was a non-playing substitute for the first time in his Blues career, while fellow Anglo-Nigerian starlet Carney Chukwuemeka missed out entirely on the matchday squad.

The first half ended goalless but Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came closest by hitting the woodwork in the 27th minute.

There was an extraordinary situation just before the halftime whistle as referee Stuart Attwell first of all showed red to Morocco's World Cup star Hakim Ziyech then changed his decision to yellow after visiting the Referee Review Area.

Straight after halftime, Spurs had a positive start as Oliver Skipp lashed a right-footed shot in off the underside of the bar from 18 yards out for his first senior goal for the north London club.

Harry Kane doubled Spurs' advantage in the 82nd minute when he pounced at the back post and buried the ball in the back of the net.

When manager Graham Potter brought on Mykhailo Mudryk and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 83rd minute, it meant Madueke was not going to make his fourth Premier League appearance for Chelsea today.
