Transfer scramble for Osimhen : Why Manchester United have the edge over Chelsea
Published: February 26, 2023Manchester United on Sunday beat Newcastle United 2-0 to win the 2023 Carabao Cup and claim the Red Devils' first trophy since 2017.
The Red Devils scored their goals through Casemiro and Marcus Rashford which guarantees Erik ten Hag’s team some form of European club football for the 2023/2024 campaign.
With United also believed to be involved in a three-horse race with Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title, the club is almost fully focused on the summer transfer window.
Erik ten Hag according to some reputable English media outlets is keen on Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen along with big spenders, Chelsea.
When it comes to wages, Osimhen might have it better at Chelsea but for footballing reasons, United aside playing in the Champions League or Europa League, offers more for the Super Eagles star.
All Nigeria Soccer here presents three reasons why United will be a better choice for Osimhen than Chelsea.
1. Marcus Rashford factor
Yes, England international, Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life at the moment and his consistency means he is one of the world's best players on current form.
However, Rashford had revealed in the past that he prefers to play from the wings rather than as a focal point.
That literally means that the prolific forward who's is a senior figure in the United dressing room could be conceding the 'number 9 role' to the Nigerian.
Osimhen is at the cusp of hitting the 20-goal mark in the Serie A and should he arrive at the Theater of Dreams, he would also displace injury-prone striker, Anthony Martial for the top striker's position.
2. United's wingers
At the moment, Chelsea is a team in all sorts of trouble. They can't seem to win a game to save their lives and were beaten 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday by London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea will undoubtedly offload a couple of players in the summer in a bid to stay in the good books of UEFA and not run foul of the Financial Fair Play rules.
Some of the players expected to be shipped out would include players not sure of their future at the club in the first place after the club splurged huge sums of money for new acquisitions.
United, however, would be a more steady ship thanks in large parts to Ten Hag who has brought belief and discipline to the side.
Some of the wingers expected to depart from Chelsea are players expected to provide ammunitions to the center for Osimhen to cause havoc - while United would retain their star players including the likes of Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Garnacho.
3. Ighalo influence
Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo was at Manchester United for a total of one year and scored a few memorable goals.
Ighalo was a lifelong fan of United and is a close friend to Osimhen.
When players are about to head to new clubs, they usually make enquiries from players whom they are familiar with.
Ighalo would surely have some nice stories to tell Osimhen about life in Manchester as a player of the prestigious club.
