Extra work for Chukwuemeka after missing Chelsea's trip to Tottenham Hotspur
Published: February 27, 2023England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka is seemingly in good physical condition ahead of Chelsea's next official match against Leeds United in the Premier League.
The former Aston Villa wonderkid was omitted from Chelsea's matchday squad on Sunday as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in a London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Chukwuemeka not making the squad against The Lilywhites had nothing to do with his fitness, considering the fact that he was involved in today's training session at Cobham.
According to Chelsea's official website, those who started the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur took part in a recovery session, while those who were substitutes or didn't play at all, including the likes of Chukwuemeka, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhailo Mudryk, did some extra work on the grass.
The signing of Argentina's 2022 World Cup star Enzo Fernández in the January transfer window, and the return to fitness of Ruben Loftus-Cheek has pushed the Anglo-Nigerian further down the pecking order of central midfielders at Stamford Bridge.
Chukwuemeka has not tasted action in the last five matches played by the Blues, though he was a non-playing substitute against Fulham, West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund.
Of his nine appearances for Chelsea since joining from Aston Villa last August, eight were off the bench.
