Dessers' brace not enough as Cremonese lose five-goal thriller to Sassuolo
Published: March 06, 2023
Cyriel Dessers scored twice while David Okereke could not get his name on the scoresheet as Cremonese lost 3-2 to Sassuolo in an Italian Serie A match at Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore on Monday.
The defeat was Cremonese's fifteenth of the season, leaving them nineteenth on the log with 12 points, thirteen matches to the end of the season.
Sassuolo took the lead through Armand Lauriente's beautiful free kick in the 26th minute before Davide Frattesi doubled their lead in the 41st minute from a back heel pass from Lauriente.
Dessers came on for Felix Afena Gyan at the start of the second half.
The Nigeria international scored his first goal of the evening when he capitalized on a misplaced header from a Sassuolo defender and finished with aplomb in the 62nd minute.
The 28-year-old bagged his brace in the 83rd minute when he rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home from an acute angle to turn the game on its head.
In the second minute of stoppage time, the home team snatched all three points thanks to Nedim Bajrami's stunning strike.
Dessers, a summer signing from Racing Genk, has now netted six goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for the Lombardy club.
