Burnley set the wheels in motion to sign Southampton's Super Eagles-eligible winger
Published: March 07, 2023
Premier League-bound Burnley have reportedly set the wheels in motion to sign Super Eagles-eligible winger Nathan Tella in the summer transfer window.
The former Arsenal schoolboy moved to the Clarets on a season-long loan from Southampton last August, with no option to buy included in the deal.
It was previously claimed that Southampton had informed Burnley that Tella was not for sale but there is a fresh development regarding the future of the Anglo-Nigerian.
According to Football Insider, Burnley are working on deal to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent basis and the Turf Moor outfit are also planning to launch a bid for the Southampton-owned player.
Tella potentially moving to the Clarets would make sense as he has adapted to the team and manager Vincent Kompany's philosophy, coupled with the fact that he has Premier League experience.
So far, he has 12 goals in 32 appearances in the EFL Championship, more than any other Burnley player.
Southampton could be forced into a deal with Burnley in the event they are relegated from the Premier League.
Tella, who has totaled 33 appearances in the Premier League, has a contract with the St. Mary's outfit until June 30, 2025.
