Transfer guru Romano reacts to rumours linking Osimhen with summer move to Arsenal
Published: March 08, 2023
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano has reacted to sensational reports linking Victor Osimhen with a transfer to Premier League table toppers Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
It is looking increasing likely that the Nigeria international will be leaving Napoli at the end of the season and he is not short of suitors, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain credited with a strong interest in the 24-year-old.
In recent days, it has been suggested that the Gunners were leading the race for the signature of Osimhen despite interest from Premier League moneybags Manchester United and Chelsea.
The report emanating from the Italian media had claimed that Napoli have slapped a ridiculous price tag of £133 million on Osimhen, which would break the British transfer record currently held by Enzo Fernandez following his move to Chelsea from Benfica in the January transfer window.
According to Romano, Arsenal seem to have cover in the central striking position and their priority in the summer is to bolster the squad with the signing of a midfielder.
Writing in his column for Caughtoffside, Romano said : “I don’t have it confirmed, as of now. Arsenal have Gabriel Jesus, Nketiah, Balogun and also, Osimhen’s price tag will be really huge.
"I think Arsenal have different priorities for this summer, including a new midfielder."
Arsenal's record transfer for incomings is the £72 million they paid to Lille for the services of Ivory Coast international Nicolas Pepe in 2019.
Osimhen, who has mustered 21 goals in 26 all-competition appearances this term, will enter the last two years of his contract with Napoli in July 2023.
