Romano reacts to reports linking Chelsea, Man City with Nwaneri; dad to hold talks with Arsenal
Published: March 14, 2023
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano has reacted to speculation linking Manchester City and Chelsea with a summer move for England U17 international of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri.
Nwaneri's name went into the record books when he came on as a substitute for Fabio Vieira in the 90th minute of Arsenal's 3-0 rout of Brentford on September 18, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history aged 15 years and 181 days, breaking the previous record set by Harvey Elliott (16 years and 30 days).
It is understood that the Gunners are keen to retain the services of the Hale Ender and have offered the attacking midfielder a scholarship for the 2023-2024 season.
Nwaneri has played up his age group, making his debuts in the Premier League, Premier League 2, Papa Johns Trophy and FA Youth Cup whilst still a schoolboy.
"I'm not aware of Manchester City into the race; Chelsea always follow top talents but Arsenal want him to sign a new deal, I'm sure they will try again and again as they consider Nwaneri as top talent," Romano said to Caughtoffside.
Allnigeriasoccer.com was recently in touch with Obi Nwaneri, Ethan's dad, and he confirmed that he will meet with Arsenal higher-ups this month to resolve the future of the Flying Eagles-eligible player.
Ethan has played nonstop at Arsenal since joining their Hale End Academy in 2015 at the age of eight.
