Arsenal-owned striker Balogun earns back-to-back UNFP Player of the Month nomination

Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun has been shortlisted for the UNFP Player of the Month for March following his outstanding performance for Stade de Reims.

Balogun continued his rich vein of form in March by scoring two goals in three appearances in the Ligue 1.

The Hale End Academy product  netted one goal apiece against Monaco and Olympique de Marseille. It was only against Ajaccio that he failed to either score or assist.

The England U21 international of Nigerian descent, who was also nominated last month, would have to beat off competition from Montpellier striker Elye Wahi and Loïs Openda of RC Lens to win the award.

Wahi bagged four goals and one assist including a brace against Clermont Foot while Openda was involved in seven goals (6 goals, 1 assist) including a hat-trick against Clermont Foot.

The winner of the award goes to the player with the most votes from the combination of online votes and the votes of Ligue 1 players.

Should the Nigeria-eligible forward win the award, he will follow in the footsteps of Nigerian trio John Utaka (Rennes), Vincent Enyeama (Lille), and Victor Osimhen (Lille) who have all won the UNFP Player of the Month trophy in the past.

Balogun has 18 goals and three assists in the league for Will Still's side and is also in the race for Ligue 1 top scorer's award.
