Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez has to turn his career around after loan setbacks
Published: April 23, 2023
Miguel Azeez is one of the exciting prospects from Arsenal's Hale End Academy and is currently on loan at Championship side Wigan Athletic.
Azeez's talent is not in doubt and the fact that he has made his senior debut for the Arsenal team is evidence of his huge talent.
In a bid to give him more game time at the senior level, the central midfielder was loaned out to Football League club Portsmouth and Spanish second tier side UD Ibiza but didn't impress.
The 20-year-old joined Wigan on loan in the January transfer window. He made his debut for the Latics as a substitute in a league game against Cardiff City.
Azeez made his full debut in the 2-0 loss to Luton Town and was on the pitch for 59 minutes and is yet to feature or make the matchday squad since then.
The Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian starlet stood out among his peers in the academy, and was once hailed as the next big thing to come out from Arsenal's Hale End Academy.
However, he has failed to make a step up to the senior level and that explains why he has had poor loan spells everywhere he has been.
It is up to Azeez if he wants to succeed at the senior level or not. It is time he reflected upon why has struggled so far and how he can improve his game and fulfill his potential.
It is difficult to see him get another loan spell at a Championship side next season, a move to a lower league team is likelier but wherever he goes, he has to step up unless he would join the long list of players that shone at the youth level but failed to cut it at the senior level.
