Iheanacho's injury confirmed : Leicester City striker out for 'a number of weeks'
Published: April 28, 2023
Leicester City manager Dean Smith will not be able to count on the services of Kelechi Iheanacho when his side battle Everton in a relegation six-pointer on Monday, May 1.
The Nigeria international played a key role in Leicester City's 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Tuesday, but hobbled off injured shortly afterwards.
Iheanacho felt pains in his groin as he diverted the ball to James Maddison, who teed up Jamie Vardy for the equalizer in the 80th minute.
A scan carried out on the Foxes number 14 confirmed that he suffered an adductor muscle injury, which is set to sideline the striker for 'a number of weeks'.
The injury means he will not be available for selection in upcoming games against Everton and Fulham, and is rated as doubtful to take to the pitch against Liverpool, Newcastle United and West Ham United.
The Leicester City manager noted that Iheanacho's absence is a huge blow, considering that he played well against his old club Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In quotes related by Leicester's official website, Smith said at Friday's pre-match press conference : "He’s got a tear in his adductor muscle. He’s out for a number of weeks. I’m not going to rule him out for the rest of the season, but it’s going to be tough to get him back. Hopefully we can.
"It’s a blow. He came on at half-time against Man City and did ever so well. He played really well in the Wolves game as well. He scored the penalty and created chances.
"His all-round displays have been really good, so it’ll be a loss, but it’s an opportunity for others."
Iheanacho has directly participated in twelve goals (8 goals, 4 assists) in 33 games across all competitions this season.
