Mourinho's Roma eyeing move for Emegha as potential replacement for ex-Chelsea striker
Published: May 18, 2023
Netherlands underage international of Nigerian descent Emanuel Emegha has put himself in the shop window after an outstanding season at Sturm Graz.
According to Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Red Bull Salzburg and AS Roma are monitoring Sturm Graz striker Emmanuel Emegha as potential target for the future.
This season, Emegha has been involved in fifteen goals (10 goals, 5 assists) in thirty five outings for Sturm Graz and helped them to win the Austrian Cup at the end of last month with an assist in the final versus Rapid Vienna.
He has also impressed on the international stage, scoring twice on his U20s debut in a 2-1 win over France in March 2023, and he's in contention to make his U21s debut for the Netherlands at this summer's European Championship having been included in the provisional squad announced on Monday.
Transfer market website Football Transfers has added that Jose Mourinho's AS Roma have identified Emegha as a possible replacement for either Chelsea academy product Tammy Abraham or Paulo Dybala who are both linked with a summer departure from the capital club.
Per the report, legendary Torino striker Andrea Belotti has not been able to convince Mourinho since his arrival at the club, having netted only four goals in 41 games.
Prior to joining Sturm Graz last summer, Emegha was teammates with Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye at Sparta Rotterdam before switching to Royal Antwerp.
The Den Haag native still has a contract with Sturm Graz until June 30, 2026.
