Published: May 24, 2023
Flying Eagles central defender Abel Ogwuche is poised for Wednesday's Group D clash in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The Nigerian U-20 side opened their quest for glory in the tournament with a 2-1 win over Dominican Republic on Sunday evening.
Ogwuche, who was not originally in the team's starting eleven for most of their CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations matches until the latter stages of the tournament, described Wednesday evening's game against Italy like a final.
The defender spoke with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) TV on his expectations for the game.
The Flying Eagles are joint Group D leaders with Italy with the European side beating Brazil 3-2 when both sides clashed after Nigeria defeated Dominican Republic 2-1 in the group opener.
"Tomorrow we will be going out 100% like we we are going to play the final, get the three points so that we qualify for the knockout stage.
"You can't say anything about the game until it's being played, on the pitch" Ogwuche quipped when asked about his projections for the game.
"But we will be going out to get the three points. We are going out to get the maximum points not for failure. Of course It's achievable if we work hard as a team, we are going to achieve our aims that's the three points tomorrow, " Ogwuche concluded.
