RPL Awards: Former Chelsea wing-back Moses misses out on Goal of the Season
Published: June 05, 2023
At an awards ceremony on Sunday, June 4, former Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses was beaten to the Russian Premier League Goal of the Season accolade by Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder Konstantin Maradishvili.
Maradishvili scooped the Goal of the Season prize for his sensational overhead kick goal in the second round of matches against Rostov.
The three finalists for the Goal of the Season were Maradishvili, Victor Moses and Spartak Moscow winger Anton Zinkovsky.
Moses was nominated for his strike against Akhmat Grozny on the opening day of the season.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner made an impact after coming off the bench, salvaging a draw with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Moses chested the ball and volleyed home in spectacular fashion from outside the box after a clearance by the Akhmat Grozny defence.
The 32-year-old was injured for most part of the 2022-2023 campaign but still managed to make eleven appearances in all competitions and found the net twice.
The Russian Premier League season ended on Saturday, June 3, with Zenit Saint Petersburg becoming champions for the fifth time in a row, CSKA Moscow finished second and third place went to city rivals Spartak.
