Official: Arsenal youth product Amaechi joins German 2. Bundesliga club FC Magdeburg
Published: June 06, 2023With a statement on their official website, German 2. Bundesliga club FC Magdeburg have announced the signing of Arsenal academy product Xavier Amaechi.
By joining the Blues on a full deal, Amaechi has ended a four-year association with another German second tier side Hamburg.
Despite being touted as one of the top talents in English football few years ago, Amaechi did not light up the 2. Bundesliga like many people had hoped, making only ten appearances as a substitute during his time at Hamburg.
And he has left Hamburg without making his full debut for the club, having come off the bench in three games in the DFB Pokal.
Amaechi spent the whole of the 2021-2022 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, for whom he played twelve games, registering one goal and an assist.
The 22-year-old scored five goals in six outings for Hamburg's reserve team in the Regionalliga Nord.
Commenting on the signing of the Anglo-Nigerian winger, Otmar Schork, Sports Director of FC Magdeburg said: "Xavier is a young and developing player who has a lot of potential. Due to injuries, his path has not been that smooth so far. We are convinced that he fits our game philosophy and will liven up our offensive."
Head coach Christian Titz added: "With Xavier we're getting a fast, dribbling player who can play several positions on offense."
Amaechi has been capped by England at U15, U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels.
