FC Basel show the exit door to youth team captain Uruejoma
Published: June 09, 2023
FC Basel U21 skipper Moyo-Ola Uruejoma will be moving on to pastures new in the summer.
According to 4-4-2.ch, Uruejoma will no longer play for FC Basel next season as his expiring contract will not be extended due to restructuring in the youth team.
Basel higher-ups want to focus on younger talents who should be promoted from their own youth teams.
The 25-year-old Uruejoma has spent the majority of his career playing for FC Basel's youth teams, rising through the ranks before stepping up to the U21s.
Last year, he was invited to be part of the first team's pre-season preparations but he declined the offer because of his studies.
Per the report, the Swiss-Nigerian midfielder is attracting interest from unnamed clubs in the Challenge League.
Blessed with pace and stamina, Uruejoma can be deployed as a holding midfielder and central midfielder.
Despite a muscle injury keeping him on the sidelines for several weeks, he recorded twenty appearances in the Promotion League over the course of the 2022-2023 season.
