Ex-CSKA Moscow GK coach reacts to Cardiff City-linked winger Ejuke suspending contract
Published: July 08, 2023
Former CSKA Moscow goalkeeping coach Vyacheslav Chanov has shared his thoughts on Chidera Ejuke suspending his contract with the Army Men amid speculation linking the winger with a move to Championship outfit Cardiff City.
Earlier this week, the Nigeria international took advantage of FIFA's amendment allowing him to unilaterally suspend his contract with CSKA Moscow until the end of next season.
Ejuke previously took advantage of the Fifa rule and froze his contract before joining Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan, and Cardiff City are hoping to sign him on a similar arrangement.
Chanov admitted that Ejuke and Iceland international Arnor Sigurdsson suspending their contracts should not come as a surprise to CSKA Moscow and does not think it would be a problem for the Muscovites in the upcoming season.
"It seems to me that they are not so much to blame as, I would say, politics. They were also allowed to suspend contracts. I think that it does not depend on them," Chanov was quoted as saying by sports.ru.
He added: "We need to see who will appear in their places. It is possible that people already knew that this could happen. This shouldn't have come as a surprise.
"Let's see who will replace them, and then this situation can change at any time. I think they would not like to suspend the contract.
"I don't think it will have much of an effect. Already played without them. I don’t notice any problem".
Ejuke has not played competitively for CSKA Moscow since the final day of the 2021-2022 season when he went the distance in a 4-0 rout of FK Rostov.
