FC Copenhagen's Akinkunmi Amoo training with Omonia Nicosia ahead of potential transfer
Published: July 12, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that 2022 Super Eagles invitee Akinkunmi Amoo is training with Cypriot First Division club Omonia Nicosia with a view to a potential transfer.
Omonia Nicosia are one of the powerhouses of Cypriot football having won the league on twenty one occasions and the Cypriot Cup sixteen times, and currently pay the wages of Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
Amoo, unarguably the marquee player in the Golden Eaglets class of 2019, joined Hammarby after his exploits at the Fifa U17 World Cup, and has been on the books of FC Copenhagen since January 2022, joining them in exchange for approximately four million euros.
On and off the pitch, the winger's move to FC Copenhagen has not gone as planned, with the Sidos Academy product suffering recurring injuries.
The 21-year-old ruptured his knee ligaments, limiting him to only two appearances for the Danish champions over the course of the 2022-2023 season, and played just two games for the club the season before that.
Amoo will be aiming to impress Omonia Nicosia manager Sofronis Avgousti during their training camp in Poland.
The left-footed attacking player was recommended to Omonia Nicosia by former director of football at Hammarby, Jesper Jansson, who was appointed sporting director of Omonia Nicosia last month.
An unnamed Russian Premier League club are interested in signing Amoo but the diminutive winger wants to work with Jesper Jansson again.
