Peseiro reveals exactly why Torunarigha and Gift Orban did not feature v Sao Tome and Principe

Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has revealed why KAA Gent duo Jordan Torunarigha  and Gift Orban were not given minutes during his side's 6-0 rout of Sao Tome and Principe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday evening.

While the former Germany underage international was a non-playing substitute, the free-scoring striker was omitted from the gameday squad.

Orban suffered an injury in training and did not receive the green light from the Super Eagles medical team to take to the pitch.

The two players earned their first call-ups to the national team after they were scouted by Peseiro during Gent's Europa Conference League match against West Ham United at the Ghelamco Arena back in April.

The Portuguese football tactician revealed the role he played in convincing Torunarigha to switch his international allegiance from Germany to Nigeria.

Peseiro has clarified that it was his own decision not to introduce the German-born central defender off the bench as he took into account the fact that second half substitutes Raphael Onyedika and Tyronne Ebuehi have not played much under him.

Speaking to reporters at the post-match press conference, Peseiro stated: Orban felt pain in the muscles. He cannot play with injury because we have to take permission from the club. We have a good relationship with the clubs.

"About Jordan, I can put eleven players with five substitutes. Onyedika came two times and for the first time he played, Tyronne also. Jordan was the first time, he has time.

"I spoke with him last season and asked him if he wants to play with us and he said okay. He didn't play today, can play in future."

William Troost-Ekong, Olorunleke Ojo, Adebayo Adeleye, Moses Simon and Jamilu Collins were the other substitutes not utilized off the bench in today's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
