Chelsea boss hopeful he'll be able to call upon two Super Eagles-eligible players against Fulham
Published: September 30, 2023Manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful that two Super Eagles-eligible players Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke are available for selection in Chelsea's Premier League meeting with Fulham on Monday.
There are positive signs that the England underage internationals of Nigerian descent are making progress on their recovery from injuries as both participated in team training this week.
While Chukwuemeka has not figured for the Blues since going off injured at West Ham United on August 20, Madueke returned from England U21 duty in September crocked and has not been called up for the last three games contested by the Londoners.
The intention of Pochettino is to name Chukwuemeka and Madueke in his matchday squad to face Fulham if they pass a fitness test within the next forty eight hours.
"We hope maybe Carney will be back, and of course Noni also after his injury when he came back from the national team," Pochettino said to Chelsea's official website.
"He is getting ready, he is working hard. We hope that these two players maybe will be available for selection on Monday."
Meanwhile, a third player of Nigerian descent in Lesley Ugochukwu came through the Carabao Cup clash versus Brighton & Hove unscathed and should be available for selection against Fulham.
