Official: Super Eagles-eligible defender signs new deal with Fiorentina
Published: October 26, 2023With a statement on their official website, Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina have confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible defender Michael Kayode has committed his future to the club by signing a new deal.
The new agreement between Fiorentina and Kayode will keep the Italy U21 international of Nigeria descent in Florence until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
The right-back was promoted to the first team this season after playing a key role for the Primavera team, helping them win the Coppa Italia once and Primavera Super Cup twice.
On the international stage, he was a key member of the Italy squad that won the 2023 European U19 Championship, scoring the winning goal in the showpiece against Portugal.
Kayode has registered eight appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina comprising six in the Serie A and two in the group stage of the Europa Conference League.
The fullback's new deal has seemingly ended speculation about his future amid reports linking him with clubs in the Premier League and German Bundesliga.
He joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2021 after spells with the youth teams of Juventus and Gozzano.
Kayode has been named in Fiorentina's provisional squad for their Europa Conference League clash with Cukaricki on Thursday evening.
