Published: December 04, 2023
England youth international of Nigerian descent, Shola Shoretire has missed out on Manchester United's Goal of the Month award for November 2023.
The Red Devils confirmed via their official website on Monday that Alejandro Garnacho's timeless overhead kick in the opening minutes away at Everton has taken the top spot with with a resounding 94 per cent of the vote.
The Argentina international saw off competition from Shoretire, club captain Bruno Fernandes who was double nominated, Ella Toone, Millie Turner, Ethan Wheatley, Rasmus Højlund, Nikita Parris and Anthony Martial.
Shoetire had been in the running for the Goal of the Month award for his stunning free-kick goal during Manchester United's 3-1 win over Everton in a Premier League 2 fixture at Leigh Sports Village on November 4.
As the clock edged towards the half hour mark, Manchester United won a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box and up stepped Shoretire, who had the skill to put his strike under the Everton wall and outwit goalkeeper Fraser Barnsley to double the home team's advantage.
Fernandes's long-range effort against Galatasaray finished in second place, while efforts from Shoretire, Toone, Højlund and Martial garnered one percent of the vote.
The 19-year-old Shoretire has scored six goals in ten outings for United's development squad so far this season.
