Top three nominees: Osimhen battles Liverpool winger Salah, PSG star Hakimi for CAF African POTY
Published: December 07, 2023
Victor Osimhen has made the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF African Men's Player of the Year Award.
He is set to battle Liverpool star and two-time winner Mohamed Salah, and PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi for the coveted prize.
Osimhen has been in phenomenal form in the past 12 months, helping Napoli end their wait for the Scudetto under former manager Luciano Spalleti.
As a result of his laudable performances, the 24-year-old won the Serie A Best Striker, Paolo Rossi and Italian Footballers' Association Player of the Year awards.
He also received a nomination for the Ballon d'Or and is in the running for the Globe Soccer award.
Regarding his competitors, Hakimi helped Morocco become the first-ever African nation to reach the FIFA World Cup semifinal and he also won the Ligue 1 with PSG while Salah was named for his form for Liverpool over the past 12 months.
Osimhen is seeking to become the first Nigerian player to be named African Men's Player of the Year in 24 years.
He will get to know his fate on December 11, when the winner is announced at the Awards Gala which will be staged in Marrakech, Morocco.
