Globe Soccer Awards: Osimhen in final 11 along with Messi, Ronaldo; Oshoala in final 10; Boniface out

The eleven finalists in the Best Men's Player category at the 14th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards have been revealed with newly crowned African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen making the shortlist.  

 

Osimhen has established himself as one of the most clinical strikers in the world in the past 12 months, scooping the Serie A top scorer award for last season and was the highest goalscorer in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

 

The 24-year-old was recently named the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 Serie A season, finished in eighth place in the 2023 Ballon d'Or award and is in the running for The Best FIFA Men's Player.

 

Joining Osimhen on the 11-player shortlist are Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Vinícius Jr (Real Madrid), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Karim Benzema (Al-Ittihad), Lionel Messi (Inter Miami), Bernardo Silva (Man City), Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), Erling Haaland (Man City)and Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr).

 

The Nigeria international is aiming to become the first African player to win the  Best Men's Player at the Globe Soccer Awards, and he will discover if he won the accolade at an awards ceremony inside the five-star Atlantis, The Palm, on January 19.

 

Meanwhile, six-time African Women's Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala remains in the running for the Best Women's Player category at the Globe Soccer Awards, while Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface did not make the final shortlist for the Power Horse Emerging Player of the Year.

 

Oshoala has been shortlisted alongside Aitana Bonmatí, Mary Earps, Fridolina Rolfo, Linda Caicedo, Amanda Ilestedt, Georgia Stanway, Olga Carmona, Sam Kerr and Debinha.

 

Saud Abdulhamid, Omar Fayed, Josko Gvardiol, Firas Al-Buraikan, Enzo Fernández, Lamine Yamal, Jude Bellingham, Gavi, Moisés Caicedo and Arda Guler are the ten finalists for the Power Horse Emerging Player award.
