'We're going to do so well' - Osimhen vows to lead Super Eagles to fourth AFCON title in Cote d'Ivoire
Published: January 06, 2024
Victor Osimhen fancies the Super Eagles chances of winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for a fourth time.
The Napoli star did not attend the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon due to injury but is expected to play a prominent role for the Super Eagles when the tournament kicks off in Côte d'Ivoire next weekend.
Without Osimhen in the squad, Nigeria returned empty handed from Cameroon, having suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the round of 16 after the team led by Super Eagles legend Augustine Eguavoen won fans over with some impressive performances in the group stage.
The Super Eagles number 9 once again showed his qualities in front of goal during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, notching ten goals to finish as the top scorer in back-to-back qualifiers.
Osimhen has complimented the players in the Super Eagles and is confident that they can get the job done.
In quotes relayed by Nigerian reporter, Olawale Ayeni, Osimhen stated: "The most important thing for us now is to go to Ivory Coast and win the tournament, I believe in this group, we have bunch of talented players to execute the job, fingers crossed and we are going to do so well."
Osimhen made his Africa Cup of Nations debut in a third place playoff match with Tunisia on July 17, 2019, replacing the tournament's top scorer Odion Ighalo at the start of the second half.
