Chelsea ready to pay N120.2b release clause for African Footballer of the Year
Published: January 06, 2024
Chelsea are ready to intensify their interest in Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen in order to beat other interested clubs to his signature.
According to Naples based Italian newspaper II Matino via Calcionapoli, Chelsea are ready to pay the €120m (approximately N120.2 billion in Nigerian currency) release clause of the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
Osimhen has always been on the radar of the Stamford Bridge outfit but his valuation has been a stumbling block from striking a deal with Napoli.
The Blues have continued to struggle for goals this season and that informs their continued interest in the Nigeria international who is considered as one of best center forwards in European football at the moment.
The former Lille man hasn't hit last season's heights as of yet having scored just 8 goals in eighteen appearances across all competitions so far but is still being linked with European heavyweights.
The 25-year-old recently signed a new contract with Napoli that contains a release clause which could now make it easier to sign him with Chelsea and other interested clubs being aware of how much it takes to secure his signature.
Besides Mauricio Pochettino's side, Arsenal are also said to be interested in the services of the 2022/2023 Serie A top scorer.
