Mikel Arteta promotes 2023 Flying Eagles invitee Ejeheri to Arsenal first team training pre-Liverpool
Published: January 06, 2024
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta promoted 2023 Flying Eagles invitee Ovie Ejeheri to first team training on the eve of the Gunners' highly anticipated Emirates FA Cup third round fixture against Liverpool in the English capital London, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Spanish football tactician monitored Ejeheri at close quarters during Saturday's workout at London Colney in St Albans, with a view to his possible inclusion in the matchday squad to face Liverpool.
Since officially joining Arsenal on schoolboy terms, Ejeheri has yet to receive a call-up to a first team game but has been invited to train with the squad on countless occasions.
Arteta picked Ejeheri as the 21st or extra player for a Premier League game against Watford at the Emirates Stadium in November 2021.
The Nigerian youngster is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper for Arsenal's development squad but is behind David Raya, Aaron Ramsdale and Karl Hein when it comes to the first team.
Ejeheri experienced a taste of men's football with two successful loan spells at National League South side Chelmsford City and Finnish Veikkausliiga club SJK Seinäjoki, keeping a total of twenty one clean sheets combined for both teams last season.
Arteta also promoted history-making attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri to first team training on Saturday.
It remains to be seen if Ejeheri and Nwaneri will be named in the matchday squad against Liverpool on Sunday, January 7.
