Red-hot winger George sends message to Pochettino with 11th goal of the season for Chelsea youth
Published: January 07, 2024
Talented winger of Nigerian descent Tyrique George continued his impressive scoring form for Chelsea youth teams on Saturday as the U18 side coached by Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman were held to a 2-2 draw by Leicester City in the U18 Premier League.
The England youth international is in his career best form since signing scholarship terms with Chelsea, with his goal against the Foxes taking his tally for the season to eleven goals in all competitions for the youth teams.
Chelsea first team manager Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be keeping tabs on the Anglo-Nigerian winger, having invited him to train with the senior players during the last international break of 2023.
If he continues with his brilliant displays, a first team call-up in the near future is inevitable as he's definitely in the spotlight.
He has carved out a reputation for scoring spectacular goals, having been nominated for Chelsea's Goal of the Month for April, October, November and December 2023.
George was one of four players of Nigerian descent selected in Chelsea's starting lineup for the away game at Leicester City, the others being Richard Olise, Somto Boniface and Saheed Olagunju.
Against Leicester City, the 17-year-old produced a right footed finish to ensure both teams were level heading into the break.
George has netted five goals in the U18 Premier League, another five in the U18 and U21 Premier League Cup and one in the Premier League International Cup.
