Arsenal coach insists it doesn't look realistic to sign a new striker amid links with Super Eagles star

Manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that it 'does not look realistic' for Arsenal to sign a new striker in the January transfer window despite his side in a hole at this moment in time.

The Gunners have lost their quality in the final third, having managed only five goals in their last seven appearances across all competitions and failed to find the net in three of those games, against Aston Villa, West Ham United and Liverpool.

Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup on Sunday evening with an own goal from Jakub Kiwior and a Luis Diaz strike giving Liverpool a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Looking at the top five of the Premier League table, the Gunners have scored less goals than the other four clubs.

There have been calls from fans and pundits for Arsenal to go into the market and sign a clinical centre forward this month.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of strikers such as Brentford's Ivan Toney and two Nigeria-eligible players in the shape of Super Eagles star Victor Boniface. and Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke.

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Boniface, who is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles in Abu Dhabi, has made a splash in the German Bundesliga, registering seventeen goal involvements (10 goals, 7 assists) in 16 games.

"At the moment it doesn't look realistic," Arteta said to beIN SPORTS, via Sky Sports.

"My job is to improve our players and get better results with the players we have."

Boniface is under contract at Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028 and is unlikely to leave the club in January.
