Super Eagles confirmed starting XI: Yusuf debuts; Troost-Ekong captain; Boniface missing; Osimhen bench
Published: January 08, 2024
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup for Monday's international friendly against Guinea at the Bani Yas Stadium, Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates.
Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili starts in goal - a decision that sees Omonia Nicosia's Francis Uzoho and Enyimba's Olorunleke Ojo named on the substitutes bench.
Nwabili is protected by a three-man defence containing William Troost-Ekong who captains the team, Chidozie Awaziem and Kenneth Omeruo.
There is a debut for Royal Antwerp's Alhassan Yusuf who starts as a holding midfielder along with Raphael Onyedika, while Bright Osayi-Samuel and Zaidu Sanusi have been deployed as wing-backs.
Up front, Sadiq Umar will lead the attack and he is flanked by Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon.
Nigeria's top scorer in AFCON qualifying Victor Osimhen will start on the bench against the Syli National but there is no place in the matchday squad for Victor Boniface, which suggests that the Bayer Leverkusen striker has fitness issues.
The Super Eagles will return to Lagos for a send forth dinner scheduled to hold at 2000 hours in Marina on January 9 before flying out to Ivory Coast the following day, January 10.
Super Eagles starting lineup: Nwabili, Awaziem, Troost-Ekong, Omeruo; Osayi-Samuel, Onyedika, Yusuf, Zaidu; Simon, Sadiq, Chukwueze
Substitutes: Uzoho, Ojo, Aina, Ajayi, Musa, Onyeka, Osimhen, Aribo, Onyemaechi, Iwobi, Lookman, Bassey
