Blues insider reveals Chelsea co-owner in contact with agent over transfer of Victor Osimhen
Published: January 08, 2024
According to Blues insider, Simon Phillips, Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali has contacted Victor Osimhen's agent over the transfer of the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
The 25-year-old recently inked a new deal with Napoli which will expire in the summer of 2026 but that has not moved a needle in Chelsea's pursuit of the forward.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are trying to put everything in place so that they can beat other interested clubs to the signing of the much-coveted striker.
As earlier reported, the two-time European champions are ready to pay the €120m release clause in Osimhen's contract to make sure he ends up at Stamford Bridge.
They are aware that there will be stiff competition for the signing of the Nigeria international and that explains why they are trying to stay ahead of other interested parties.
Phillips has revealed that the discussion between Eghbali and Osimhen's agent ended positively with the striker also open to joining the Premier League giants.
"I understand Chelsea have had contact with Osimhen's entourage in recent weeks/days to discuss the possibility of the Napoli striker joining Chelsea," he told his substack via Chelsea Chronicle.
"The feedback they have had is positive, with there being an understanding that Osimhen would be open to joining Chelsea,
"Behdad Eghbali has initiated this contact and now has good relations with Osimhen's agent.
"Now, that doesn't mean Chelsea are 100% signing Osimhen, and it doesn't mean that he would also not be open to joining other clubs if they come in."
With Napoli's poor start to the season, it is highly doubtful that a move for the Super Eagles marksman will be achievable this month.
The Serie A defending champions will be without their key striker for the next couple of games as he is set to represent Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
