PL2: Shoretire at the double, George scores winner as Chelsea and Man Utd play out thriller
Published: January 12, 2024
Two Flying Eagles-eligible players were on the scoresheet as Chelsea U21s got a dramatic 3-2 win over Manchester United in a Premier League 2 encounter at the Kingsmeadow Stadium on Friday night.
Donnell McNeilly gave the home side the lead in the 32nd minute and he also scored the second with a header from Zak Sturge's cross.
Flying Eagles-eligible midfielder Shola Shoretire pulled one back for Manchester United in the 54th minute having fired a shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Max Merrick.
The 19-year-old restored parity at the hour mark with a thumping volley to register his second of the night.
While it was looking as if the right-footed forward had salvaged a point for the young Red Devils, another Nigeria-eligible forward, Tyrique George changed the scoreline in Chelsea's favor.
The 17-year-old produced a magical individual strike in the first minute of the additional time to give the host the maximum points and register his first goal in the Premium League 2 this season.
Manchester United and Chelsea have accumulated ten points each after ten games in the Premier League 2 but the former edges the latter with goal difference at the moment.
