2023 AFCON: Nigeria to meet Cameroon in blockbuster round of 16 clash on Saturday
Published: January 23, 2024
The Super Eagles will square up against Cameroon in the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.
Nigeria finished second in Group A having amassed seven points, the same as table toppers Equatorial Guinea but were edged on goal difference.
The West African side recorded 3 goals and conceded just once in the three matches they played during the group stage.
Cameroon on the other hand qualified in a dramatic fashion having finished second in Group C with four points, courtesy of a last-gasp victory over Gambia on Tuesday evening.
While they finished on the same number of points and the same goal difference as Guinea, the Central African side scored more goals having netted 5 times as against the Syli National who notched 2.
Nigeria and Cameroon haven't faced each other since an international friendly game in 2021 which ended in a barren draw.
The last time they met at the Africa Cup of Nations was in the 2019 edition when the Super Eagles defeated the Indomitable Lions 3-2 in the round of 16 en route to their third-place finish.
