Tottenham and Aston Vila join Manchester United in race for Dutch-Nigerian attacker
Published: January 25, 2024
Aston Villa and Tottenham have reportedly joined the race to sign Dutch-Nigerian forward Joshua Zirkzee.
According to Tuttomercaoweb via TEAMtalk, the two Premier League sides are in the running alongside Manchester United and AC Milan for the signature of the Bologna forward.
Tottenham are yet to replace Harry Kane who left for Bayern Munich last summer and they have had to rely on Richarlison as their main central forward all season with Son Heung-min also playing that role at times.
While they have signed Timo Werner who can also play in that position this window, the Germany international was signed on a loan deal and could return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season.
Aston Villa on the other hand are interested in the Netherlands youth international because they want a good backup for Ollie Watkins.
Unai Emery has Jhon Durán to call upon as deputy for Watkins at the moment but the Colombia international has failed to impress scoring just two goals in 12 Premier League games this season.
With the interest in Zirkzee growing by the day, it has been claimed that Bologna prefer to sell him outside Italy which could be an encouragement for the English clubs interested in him.
