Chelsea provide injury update on nephew of Nigeria's 2010 Africa Cup of Nations star
Published: January 25, 2024
Lesley Ugochukwu - nephew of Nigeria's 2010 Africa Cup of Nations star Onyekachi Apam - will not make his return from injury in Chelsea's FA Cup fourth round tie against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
The France U21 international has been on the sidelines since he suffered a relapse of a hamstring injury during the Premier League meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.
According to Chelsea's official webpage, Ugochukwu is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme and is not available for selection for the visit of Aston Villa.
The Blues have not put a time frame on how long Ugochukwu will be kept out of action.
The defensive midfielder was an important squad member before he sustained the injury and suffered a relapse, with manager Mauricio Pochettino naming him in sixteen consecutive gameday squads.
Since his move to Stamford Bridge last summer, the French-Nigerian teenager has appeared in thirteen games in all competitions, six of which he started.
Meanwhile, Carney Chukwuemeka's injury problems are over as he has been involved in Chelsea's last two games, including Tuesday's 6-1 rout of Middlesbrough in the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.
